Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter…Oh My!

What social media does your business really need to be on?
Millions of people are on social media; it is a huge (and overwhelming) market. With so many different websites, it can be confusing to k

1) Know your targeted age range. Who buys your good or service? For example, if you own a boutique that usually attracts customers from the ages of 15-30, your best bet would be Instagram and Twitter verses Facebook or YouTube. Do your research and find what your customers use the most, or you could completely miss them all together.

2) Know your product/service. Even though social media is a huge market, it may not be your market. For example, if you own a paper company, that probably wouldn’t be worth tweeting about.

3) Know your competition. Look up your biggest competitors and see how and where they market themselves. If you own a cupcake shop and your competitor has a Facebook page, create one for your business so you can show off your work, but also so people know your competitor isn’t the only bakery around.

4) Most importantly, know yourself. If you aren’t into the Twittersphere, if you don’t understand sharing posts, or uploading pictures – social media might not be for you. If you find that your customers are using it, your competitors are using it, and your product/service would be good to market via social media, it won’t do you any good if you aren’t tech savvy. Be realistic, if you don’t know much, find a way to learn or hire someone to run your social media accounts. It could be worth it in the end!
